NOTE: THESE PROGRAMS HAVE BEEN TEMPORARILY SUSPENDED.

The Green Construction industry is one of the fastest growing construction fields and The Black Star Project recognizes the opportunity this field presents for our people. In a social climate where young Black men are systematically excluded from viable employment opportunities, The Black Star Project seeks to support the Black and Latino communities in preparing for and securing jobs in the Green Construction Industry.

Youth Employment

What is Youth Employment?

During the summers of 2013 and 2014, The Black Star Project was a part of the city-wide One Summer Chicago Plus youth employment program, a summer jobs program that provides job training and experience, mentoring, and social-emotional learning to youth in Chicago. Through this program, The Black Star Project has placed 200 young men in job sites across the city, given them intensive mentoring and guidance from a team of mentors, and trained them in financial literacy, entrepreneurship, and job skills.

What are the young men saying about the program?

"When I got my first check with my name on it, it made me feel like somebody."

"I hope to start a program like this one day."

"This program gives me something constructive to do, other than being in the streets."

"I learned how to be responsible and achieve my goals."

"It made me believe that many things are possible."
