Public Policy Luncheon

The Black Star Project has had several Public Policy Luncheon Series dedicated to the improvement of the African American Community. Speakers in this series are from the worlds of business, academia, government, technology, law, community development, medicine, workforce development, faith and other associated areas that contribute to the uplift and well-being of marginalized communities.

Some of our past speakers have included: 

George Wright – Historian, Economic Strategist, Researcher

Baron Waller – Owner/Manager, 4 Culver’s Restaurants

Williams Towns – Executive Director, Benefit Chicago

James Montgomery – Attorney and Principal, James D. Montgomery and Associates, LTD

Dr. Terry Mason – Chief Operating Officer, Cook County Dept. of Public Health

John Rogers – Chairman and CEO, Ariel Investments

The speakers’ remarks are modeled after the popular “TED Talks” format. Approximately 30-50 attendees pay a modest admission fee with some of the proceeds supporting a selected charity or community organization.   Additionally, college students attend free of charge.

The sessions are videotaped and featured on cable television. Promotion is done through The Black Star Project’s WVON radio show, press releases and social media.
