Red, Black, Clean & Green
The Red Black Clean and Green initiative was founded by Phillip Jackson and General Sel Dunlap in 2015, when they “hijacked” the City of Chicago’s Earth Day Clean and Green campaign. This initiative brings members of the community together to collectively clean the environment. The project’s goal is not only to have a cleaner physical environment, but to instill the psychological importance of cleanliness and the benefits that come with it into the thinking and actions of community residents and individuals. Partnering with community residents, The Black Star Project and the RBCG campaign have successfully carried out cleaning activities in various neighborhoods including North Lawndale, Austin, Garfield Park, Englewood, and Auburn Gresham just to mention a few.
